Ambition: All that You Could Be

We all know it is important to have ambition in our lives. While ambition in education is encouraged by doing your best in school, you can have ambition in numerous areas of life. Your task is to find an article or video clip from a credible news source based on ONE of the following:

Option 1: The best example of an ambitious person.
  1. Using text based details, describe the ambition of the person. What specific actions and life choices does this person do to demonstrate ambition?
  2. Include a link to the electronic article or video clip (must be within the last six months)

Option 2: The supreme example of your ambition. In other words, an article about someone aspiring to something you would like to be (career related: doctor, athlete, scientist, etc).

  1. Using text based details, describe the actions and choices made by the person that demonstrate ambition.
  2. Write an additional paragraph about why you hope to be like this person one day.
  3. Include a link to the electronic article or video clip (must be within the last six months).

Example Homework: Learning Self-Respect

Hi class, I thought you might find it useful to see an example of how to complete your homework. Check it out:

The following article "Learning to Thrive with Attention Deficit Disorder" by Allison Aubrey is about a college girl, Emily, who is learning how to overcome obstacles in her life. Learning isn't something that comes naturally with ADD, especially when you are on your own in college. When medication and other alternatives failed, Emily found success through attention deficit coaching. Emily finished her first year of college at Pacific Lutheran University with a 3.4 grade point average and is confidently starting her sophomore year, anticipating the same success.

This article is a wonderful example of self-respect. To respect something is to hold it in high regard. When you respect yourself, you hold a view that you are capable of great accomplishments and personal success, even in the midst of difficulties. Emily believed in herself and knew that she was capable of earning good grades, but she knew that she would need some help to make it happen. She showed respect to herself by seeking the help that she needed. The psychologists coached her through a process of becoming organized. She learned how to break large projects into smaller steps on her own and she applied this knowledge to all her classes. When she received her report card, it was a clear that she worked hard at overcoming organizational challenges to be the best student she could be, demonstrating a consistent respect for herself.

Respect in our Everyday Lives Current Event

Team Mahuwesta is exploring respect for September’s "Skill for Life." A person can have respect for many things: themselves, their classmates, their parents, their environment, their country, their school work, etc.
  1. Your task is to find a news article from an online newspaper, magazine, or credible Internet news source (such as CNN or MSNBC) that shows the best example of respect you can find. Your article or video clip must have been published within the last six months.
  2. Then write a 2-3 paragraph blog post explaining the article. (Spend one paragraph summarizing the article and the next one to two paragraphs describing the respect occurring. In other words, you are identifying the actions and behaviors that demonstrate respect to the subject, group, object or idea.)
  3. Don't forget to hyperlink the article in your text or attach the video in your posting for your readers to reference.
Due Wednesday, September 24

If you have any questions about how to complete the assignment, post a comment so other people in our learning community can gain from the knowledge too.
